Active bending of timber laths

Hello everybody,

I am modelling a timber laths structure. I was wondering if there was a way in Karamba to model the reactions that are due to the bending of the laths, where the knots of my structure would be.

Hello parametricalb,
in Karamba3d 1.3.2. you can add a precurvature load on the deformed geometry and thus include the effect of bending.
Best,
Clemens

Dear Clemens,

I am trying to create a bending active gridshell. Can you kindly further explain how I can include the internal forces and moments generated by the curvature of structure, before I can start adding any imposed loading?

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,
Michela

Hi,

you can refer to https://manual.karamba3d.com/3-in-depth-component-reference/3.2-load/3.2.1-loads#initial-strain-load on how to define these. You can also see the exampes found in C:\Program Files\Rhino 6\Plug-ins\Karamba\Examples\TestExamples\Loads too.

best,
Matthew
