Abysmal performance with dots

I know that’s not how the dots are supposed to be used, but I’d not expect it to be this bad.
I’m getting 1-2 fps on

I mean I’d use points in their place, but points don’t retain their attribute values when unrolled with the surface.

So I have to use points and convert them to dots during unfold.
