Chainsaw Choreographies
(Robotic Fabrication Workshop Series)
27 July – 5 August 2016 AA Hooke Park Campus, Dorset (UK)

The Architectural Association is holding its first Robotic Fabrications Workshop at its Hooke Park campus. The workshop series Robotic Fabrications, to be held every year, explores robotic manufacturing for architectural elements.

This year, the ancient craft and traditions of Japanese joinery will undergo a digital interpretation – while preserving the poetry, ritual and sensitivity, get translated into a highly choreographed set of toolpaths for the robot. Chainsaw Choreographies will explore the precision, petrol-fueled territory where code meets chainsaw. The workshop will integrate the chainsaw with the robot to fabricate Japanese joinery from round timber.
