This is a college assignment I am completing. I have created a flat image, but how do I convert this 2D image into a 3D style in another image? I can’t find any videos or examples on the Internet that can help me. Please help me.
Making a 3D model from 2D information is not simple.
The User’s Guide includes a tutorial called Trace Images, where you work from Top and Side images of a dragonfly to model a 3D version that matches the images.
Hi @jiaqi_bao,
John is right, making a 3D object from 2D images can be complicated. But, assuming your second illustration is from the assignment instructions, it looks like you are just supposed to fold your flat image into a four sided box which is much simpler. If that’s right, here is a way you can do that.
Split and rotate.
Draw lines where you want the folds to go (they can be taller than your object) and use the Split command to split your object into four panels. Select everything in the first panel and, in the top view rotate the selection 90 degrees clockwise about its right end. Next select everything in the 3rd and 4th panels and rotate them 90 degrees anticlockwise about their combined left end. Finally select all the 4th panel and rotate it 90 degrees anticlockwise about the end abutting the 3rd panel. You should now have a four sided box. Select everything and use the Join command to put it back together.

p.s. Ignore the funny pattern in the above picture where the 2D and 3D objects meet, that’s just because they are occupying the same space. I kept a copy of the unfolded object to show how the two forms compare. You wouldn’t have that showing in your finished work.
