It is a solid shift knob whether from acrylic plastic or polyester resin.

Known as a shifter knob (or just shift knob) in these parts. Looks great! It would be a good exercise for experimenting with decals and coming up with some sort of shift diagram. Maybe engraving is better for that.

I corrected the title. Yes engraving the knob could make its appearance more interesting but usually a smooth one makes a better sense for the driver.
Also, as I inserted a metal ball in the middle of the knob, engraving it could deform the ball visually.
