3d relief from jpg... heightfield

is there way to create a good 3d model of the attached ?
I guess I would need to do something with the jpeg in PS before?
any help apprciated

thank you

Hello - Heightfield is the tool but this image is not ideal - it is a ‘lit’ image and not a heightfield gradient where the high bits are white and the lowest ones black. It will do something if you give it enough points - use the image pixel size as the point count.

Thanks pascal
Do you think the output could be used on a cnc machine to create a wood model?
Rich

Hi Rich - Probably not, is my guess - what I made is a mesh with a vertex at each pixel in the image - not actually smooth except somewhat, as a rendering. It might be fine, I have no experience with this -

If you make a surface, either interpolating or control points at the pixels, it is very noisy. For that to work well, I think you will need a ‘proper’ noise free height map image.
