Hi,
3d print company steps shown for rhino say to select 0.02mm tolerance but that chance doesnt appear in these steps when I select Options, so where does one select 0.02mm tolerance ?
:-
File > Export Selected or File > Save As
Select the objects to be exported
Select File Type Stereolithography (*.stl)
Enter Filename
Savein STL Mesh
Export Options,
Enter Tolerance 0.02 mm (0.0008 inches), then click OK.
Select Binary
Uncheck Export Open Objects
OK

Cheers

You only get the tolerance or Details settings if you’re exporting NURBS surfaces/polysurfaces to STL as they need to be converted to meshes.

If you’re exporting a mesh to STL there is nothing to translate. Triangles go out as is and quad mesh facets are bisected.

It’s better practice to convert your NURBS objects to meshes first using the Mesh command. Then you can check the mesh for accuracy and closure before exporting it.
In that process, the Mesh command would have the conversion tolerance. It’s the “Maximum distance edge to surface”; essentially the simple chord height definition of how far you’ll allow the straight mesh facets to pull away from your smooth NURBS surfaces.
