Hi, when I have tried to uninstall the previous WIP and install a new one I still get some of the adjusted settings from previous WIP on the new installations, so I wish for a clean uninstall option in the wip’s, like the nvidia drivers has. Previous WIP rounds, like for v4 and V5, that lasted for years, benefited from registry clean outs during and after the wip periods, so plese look into this.
You can probably manually clear out [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\McNeel\Rhinoceros\6.0] using the regedit tool.
(I’m not sure it’s called 6.0, but you should see 5.0 and/or 5.0x64 - don’t delete these - and another one called 6.0 or WIP or some such).
And, you need to delete also the %APPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\6.0 directory, where many settings are stored as well.
(again 6.0, WIP, or similar)

I’ve been kind of fighting with this for the last three builds. I had a bunch of crashes within the first half hour of installing the 11-17 build, including a blue screen, and that was the last of it. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and have continued to do so with each new build, but can only get the WIP to partly run (no saves) as the license won’t register. Today I did the uninstall, delete the registry key as Menno suggested, deleted the 6.0 folder in Users/Mark/AppData/Roaming/McNeel/Rhinoceros, Ran C-Cleaner and used their registry tool, rebooted and installed the 12-7 build. I have an icon on my desktop, but no 6.0 WIP folder in the start menu. Right clicking the icon (to try safe mode) crashes Explorer. Left click starts the WIP, but the ValidateLicense command is unrecognised and Rhino insists the beta has expired. Not sure what I messed up or how to fix it.
I had to go into my user and delete the app data there as well, lots of files.
Why doesn’t the Rhino uninstaller remove these? It should at least be an option IMO.
The fundamental reason is the MSI installer did not put those files there so the MSI uninstaller can’t remove them. The Windows uninstaller can only remove files it installed and that have not been modified in any way. That’s just the rules of MSI. Those files and registry keys are created when Rhino is run and modified/added to with each successive run.
It would be technically possible to build an independent cleanup tool that could remove the settings I think.

I see the license data seems to be stored there, could it be an idea to remove that?

And also the DownloadCash should be cleared out IMO. I had 1.15 GB of old files there. Just found it.
I just added a request to the YouTrack system for a WIP cleanup tool.
