Weld bead bump map

Hi,

Hope someone can help me out here. I’m trying apply bump maps to multiple surface blends. I’m having difficulty figuring out how to get the texture to follow the flow/direction of each surface.

First, check out this video, I learned some good concepts from it. http://vimeo.com/58457893

It’s a little hard to give specific instructions without knowing the specifics of the texture you’re mapping and structure of your surfaces, but I’ll try.

The surface on the left looks pretty good, I’m sure that’s what you’re going for on the other one. Select the surface you want to edit and go to the “Properties” tab. Click on the button that looks like a checkerboard cylinder. Here you’ll find all the mapping functions that Rhino provides. First thing I’d try is the “Apply Surface Mapping” button. This should do something like making the mapping follow the UVs of your surface (but this might be what Rhino did automatically anyway). If this doesn’t give a desirable result, you may want to try doing some adjusting using the “UVEditor command”. This will allow you to move your unfolded surface mesh around on the texture to adjust it.

Hi,

Thank you for your help. Your mentioning the uv’s helped me recognised the differences between the two blends. I rebuilt the problem one to approximate the uv spacing of the good one. That appears to have fixed the problem.
