It looks like ViewCaptureToClipboard stores the image in the clipboard as a highly compressed JPEG, i.e. with clearly visible artifacts. Can it be told to store the image in an uncompressed format, or at least to use a sane compression ratio?

Actually, the ViewCaptureToClipboard command copies a raw, uncompressed, device-independent bitmap (e.g. DIB) to the Clipboard.
How are you determining the command is storing a highly compressed JPG?

I paste into Xara Designer Pro X11. Could be an issue of that software, of course. No idea about the internals of the Windows clipboard.
