Is there any dialogue started as to when we’ll be able to import Solidworks 2016 parts and assemblies? Our engineering department just upgraded, and now Design, who uses Rhino, cannot open any newly created or modified parts without having them exported which really slows down the workflow.
Any ideas when the WIP will be able to open SW2016 ? I also have customers that have upgraded now and SW tends to import much nicer into Rhino then STEP.
Hi
No idea. I don’t believe the file reading libraries we use are supporting
SW2016 files yet. When they do, we will integrate them into Rhino WIP while
will eventually produce V6.
Your best alternatives are to use STEP and IGES files to share data between
SW and Rhino.

Hi SW 2015 files will import into the V6 WIP. There are no file reading
libraries for SW2016 files yet. I hadn’t heard SW2016 was released. Your
best bet is to export from SW to STEP and open it in Rhino that way.
There will not be any more updates for Rhino V5 so no, the tools for importing newer SolidWorks files will not be in V5.
You bet option is to get a STEP file exported from SolidWorks then you can open it in any version of Rhino.
