Solid hatch changes color when I zoom in and out

Is this customary? So I’m using hatch as an overlay to made it a solid. Gave it a red color. Red is red while in close,but zoom back and it turns black. Any ldeas out there ? Thank you, Mark

I was in rendered mode. In shaded it works as suspected. Sorry for the bother.—Mark
