Mesh aspect ratio not used when meshing on extrusion

When I try to create a mesh on an extrusion, the required aspect ratio is not used. This leads to an undesired mesh with mesh faces of high aspect ratio.

Actually, itā€™s not a bug. It is intentional behavior. I canā€™t currently recall why it was special cased to act that way, but it was to fix or avoid some other problem.

Is it important enough for you that I go find out so you understand why?
Iā€™m pretty sure the unique behavior will not be changed.

If it is not a bug, but a feature then maybe could you tell me how to convert an extrusion to a surface? I really had to struggle by first trimming the extrusion, which turns it into a surface, followed by untrimming the trim to get the surface of the extrusion.

Hi Menno- use ConvertExtrusion (or Explode/Join) to convert extrusion to polysurfaces. Also, if you do not want Rhino to create extrusions, set this with the UseExtrusions command.

@pascal thanks for the name of the command, that is really helpful.

@dalelear, is this difficult to fix? @bobmcneel, is this a ā€œpaper cutā€?

Yes. This is a paper cut.

I already reported this.
