This is actually something we're working on right now. It can, of course, be corrected using the UVEditor, but it's certainly true that the orientation in texture space of unwrapped objects can be mis-aligned.

Any chance we get this in SR for v5? Maybe a bonus tool?
Here we'll get to use v6 when it's released, so probably a year or two from now. I would use this regularly for the time being,
